Music, Book and Lyrics: Denise Wright & Peter Anthony SYNOPSIS
Secretly obsessed with beautiful young fashion model Dorian Gray, the photographer Basil Hallward unwittingly creates a masterpiece with terrible destructive powers. Hypnotised before his own portrait, Dorian is corrupted by the amoral Harry Wooton to substitute pleasure for goodness, and makes a fatal wish that he should stay young in exchange for his soul. Dorian's journey into darkness leads to the corruption and ultimate destruction of the innocent dancer, Sarah Vane, whose fiercely protective brother James swears revenge...
DEVELOPMENT OF THE SHOW Partly developed at the Sony-sponsored Brit School in London, UK Director Mark Heron's ghostly and chilling take on the show (below) was showcased at the Greenwich Theatre in 2002 as part of Musical Futures, with evocative choreography by Cressida Carre, and subsequently featured on BBC Radio 4.
RECORDING OF DORIAN GRAY A unique fusion of trance, world and theatre music, influenced by the contemporary producer William Orbit, the original cast recording of Dorian Gray stars the wonderful baritone Stuart Pendred (Les Mis, Spend, Spend, Spend) as the Machiavellian Harry Wooten and David McKecknie (who went on to play Mary Sunshine in the West-End's Chicago) as Dorian.
